Sheffield BSF

Sheffield BSF was one of the largest schemes in the Government funded project. The County Council selected Taylor Woodrow, to ensure every secondary school in Sheffield was rebuilt or renewed within three years. The £158million projet involved rebuilding: Newfield, Silverdale, Yewlands and Talbot Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. Along with the refurbishment of High Storrs and Firth Park and the design and build of a brand new SEN school in the north of the city.

Taylor Woodrow selected 4Projects because of their track record for managing major programmes of work. The integrated collaboration solution allowed different supply chains access to different projects. It allowed Taylor Woodrow to keep each school separate, whilst keeping all project information within the one extranet. Another major benifit highlighted was the use of the discussions module to replace email chains and to manage communications and commenting within the projects.

- Ministry of Justice, Custodial Estate
On its creation in May 2007 the Ministry of Justice became one of the largest government ministries bringing together agencies dealing with courts, tribunals, prisons and probation services, along with many smaller bodies. Those services involve some 80,000 employees and require use of a major property portfolio valued at almost £10bn.

This document sets out our Asset Management Strategy. It explains how we intend to make best use of those assets, and of the investment of some £700m a year agreed as part of the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review (for 2008/9 to 2010/11), to deliver improved services. It brings together the strategies developed in each of our major business areas: prisons, courts, tribunals, and probation service, as well as our requirement for HQ and other offices such as the Legal Services Commission. It also sets out how we intend to develop and maintain the portfolio, not only to better meet the evolving business need, but also exploiting opportunities for joint solutions.

The prison estate is the most significant part of our portfolio and there has been much reporting of the increase in prisoner numbers and problems of capacity. A five year programme to add some 9500 places is already underway. In addition, the Justice Secretary has now announced agreement for an extended capacity programme increasing capacity up to 96,000 places by 2014.
